General
First class Northern European pine is the foundation of all LUGARDE summerhouses. In these countries governmental authorities exercise stringent supervision to ensure that more trees are planted than are cut down, so that the ecological balance perfectly is maintained. Lugarde guarantee that we will choose only the highest quality materials and accessories, in the manufacture of our buildings. The assembling of a LUGARDE construction kit does not require more than an average technical and do-it-yourself skills, so ever you can assemble his summerhouse from the floor up to the roof. As a matter of course all houses are provided with assembly instructions. At an additional charge however you can leave the assembly work to your dealer.

Building permission
Depending on the local authorities and size of building you may need planning consent if you intend to build a summerhouse in your garden. Your local council will give you any information you need. LUGARDE (or your local dealer) can supply building drawings, of all LUGARDE summerhouses and models free of charge. [ top ]

Preparation
A solid foundation is necessary for the installation of your summerhouse. Depending on soil type it has to be removed to a depth of approx. 15 cm. Next fill in with yellow sand, compact or vibrate and than lay concrete slabs or put down concrete. Make sure that the top of the floor is always above ground level and that it is absolutely level. This will prevent you from unnecessary problems. It is advisable to apply a layer of gravel around your summerhouse to prevent water from splashing up. If you have any doubts about the foundation, we recommend you to contact your dealer for advice. [ top ]

Walls

All summerhouses in the Prima and Fifth Avenue series consist of a unique 3=1 system, developed by LUGARDE, where the moulded wall elements slide perfectly into the corresponding corner posts. The corner posts are reinforced with an invisible aluminium strip, a system that improves the durability of the summerhouse under all weather conditions. The assembling system is simple and durable, and all wall elements are erected without nails or screws. The thickness of the wall elements is 28 mm. for summerhouses up to ø 300 cm. and 44 mm. for the models from ø 350 cm. For houses with a wall thickness of 28 mm. the wall elements are placed on pressure-impregnated foundation beams of 44x70 mm. Buildings with a wall thickness of 44 mm. are placed on foundation beams of 70x70 mm. [ top ]

Roof
For summerhouses in the octagonal range until ø 300 cm. the roof is made up of 8 ready-to-use elements, both for thatched roofs and for shingle roofs. In all summerhouses from 350 cm. across, the roof comes as a do-it-yourself construction kit and includes rafters, roof elements, shingles and decorative moulding (if applicable). The roof covering is made of 19 mm. thick pine wood boards, which are completely prepared.
In models from 350 cm. across thatching has to be done by local professional thatches. The roof elements however are included in the delivery.
To cap off the roof where applicable there is a selection of either a brass ball or a weathercock . [ top ]

Windows and doors
You can combine or enlarge the doors and windows as you please, as long as the dimensions correspond to the garden house (i.e. will fit the wall size) of your choice. On the basis of the price list you can calculate the price differences between the standard quoted package and the windows you require. Should you choose a size that differs from the standard dimensions there will be an additional modification cost for each alteration. You add or subtract the difference and then add on the £29 modification cost. All buildings with 44 mm. wall elements can be delivered with double glazed (16 mm.) windows and doors. The relevant types are window PE44 and door PE45. All single doors are supplied with standard opening left sided (as seen from the outside). If you want the door opening on the right, please order it that way. In case of double doors, the right door will open first. During construction the doors and windows are slipped over the wall elements from the top, together with the frames, creating a very stable structure. [ top ]

Upkeep

Guarantee
LUGARDE guarantees all its summerhouses and log cabins for 5 years on manufacturing or construction defects. Such guarantees however only apply for those products which have been installed and which are treated according to the instructions and directions of the manufacturer. Wood is a unique, natural product and the finish on boards will therefore vary. Variation will therefore be seen as coarse of fine grains and shades of colour. Such properties are normal in wood and cannot be considered as a defect. They have to be accepted as an unavoidable property of the product. All summerhouses or log cabins that are constructed from wood will shrink or swell according to weather conditions, and along with warping are natural properties of wood. [ top ]

In such case we shall be forced to charge you for call out costs, any labour costs and/or replacement of components etc. Complaints for damage, visual defects or missing parts should be reported within 8 days from delivery or before assembling and treatment of the summerhouse. Also, in the event of complaint, and the cause proves to be poor foundation or assembling errors the guarantee shall not apply. Any missing or damaged parts will be delivered or replaced as soon as possible. [ top ]

Maintenance
We cannot control our climate and so wind, sun and rain have free play.
In order to protect your LUGARDE summerhouse in the best possible way against these influences, the wood should be treated as soon as possible both inside and outside. Together with a well-established manufacturer of paint LUGARDE has developed an excellent system, taking into account quality and environment care.
The careful treatment of your summerhouse is a vital condition for the lifetime of your summerhouse. An optimal result can be achieved by using LUGARDE Impregnate in combination with LUGARDE finish. These paints have specially been developed for our summerhouse program, taking into accounts that perfect moisture regulation and elasticity of the paint are key elements for an optimum protection and appropriate lifetime. These properties are highly assimilated in the LUGARDE wood protecting products, applying a unique combination of classical natural oils and synthetic resins. LUGARDE paints are a solvent poor system and are therefore environment friendly. The grade of pure linseed oil provides excellent impregnation of the wood. LUGARDE finish is available in a range of covering and transparent colours. The brightest UV durable colour is pine. More bright colours always will lead to affection respectively discoloration of the wood through UV-light. Wood will always be effective and in order to protect it to an optimum the finish should contain a durable elasticity.
You should never apply a bright and/or none moisture regulating paint (e.g. boat lacquer). [ top ]
